COLUMBIA — Three Columbia State Community College marketing students recently presented a tourism prototype for the town of Fairview after completing a study abroad program in Iceland through the Tennessee Board of Regents Global Studies initiative. Students Gabby Curtis of Fairview, Xavier Viazcan of Lewisburg, and Montserrat Coronado of Spring Hill developed "Fairview on Two Wheels" — a concept promoting Fairview as a destination for cycling, rail bikes, outdoor recreation, and local business engagement.

During the 10-week course, the students built a comprehensive campaign including a fully developed website and strategic marketing plan. They presented their work to students at the University of Iceland, who in turn presented an Iceland-focused project back to the group — a cultural exchange that sharpened the team's thinking about what makes a place worth visiting. Curtis said meeting with a tourism advisor in Iceland helped them rethink the concept so it could connect with a wider audience.

The project illustrates something worth paying attention to: communities in Maury County and beyond have natural assets — trails, local food, small businesses, heritage — that can be packaged into real economic opportunity. These students figured that out in Iceland. Learn more at ColumbiaState.edu.
