COLUMBIA — As America marks its 250th anniversary in 2026, Columbia is honoring the people who built the city—26 influential figures whose stories continue to guide future generations. The City has launched a new website, Columbia250USA.com, and placed decorative banners throughout downtown featuring these historical leaders, visionaries, and legends.
The initiative reflects a deliberate effort to keep the community's past alive and visible. Brief biographies of each honoree are available on the website, with historical content provided by Maury County Archives and the African American Heritage Society of Maury County. Mayor Chaz Molder said the recognition goes beyond marking a milestone. "It's about recognizing the people who built our community and ensuring that their stories continue to be told to inform future generations," he said.
The banners now line the courthouse square and downtown area, a visual reminder of Columbia's deep roots and the men and women who shaped its character. The initiative invites residents and visitors alike to explore the stories of the city's founders, civic leaders, and cultural figures who left a lasting mark on Maury County.
