MAURY COUNTY — Maury County Fire Department units were dispatched to a structure fire on Highway 431 on the afternoon of Friday, May 1, at 12:51 p.m. The incident involved a detached garage fire at a residential property near Flat Creek Road.

Responding units arrived on scene and initiated firefighting operations to contain and extinguish the fire. Due to the positioning of fire apparatus and supply lines needed for the response, one lane of Highway 431 was temporarily blocked, creating traffic impacts in the area. The fire department advised motorists to use alternate routes during the emergency response.

The cause of the fire has not been reported. Detached garage fires can pose particular challenges for firefighters because of the potential for rapid spread to nearby structures and the difficulty in accessing water sources in some rural areas. The quick response of Maury County Fire Department personnel helped limit the scope of the incident.

Residents are reminded to ensure that garage spaces—whether attached or detached—are clear of combustible materials and that electrical systems are properly maintained. Portable heaters, gas-powered equipment stored indoors, and improperly discarded smoking materials are common causes of residential fire incidents. Anyone with questions about fire safety or prevention resources is encouraged to contact their local fire department.
