COLUMBIA — Maury County Fire Department units responded to a structure fire at a detached garage on Highway 431 on May 1st at 12:51 p.m., requiring temporary road closures near Flat Creek Road.

The fire department's initial attack brought units to the location where crews worked to contain and extinguish the garage fire. Because fire apparatus and equipment supply lines were necessary to fight the blaze, one lane of Highway 431 remained blocked during active firefighting operations. The fire department issued a traffic alert encouraging drivers to use alternate routes while operations were underway.

By the time the alert was updated, the roadway had reopened — a relatively quick resolution for a structure fire response. The incident drew attention from regional media outlets including Nashville television stations, which is typical for significant fire calls in Maury County.

Structure fires, while serious, are incidents that the fire department trains for regularly. The successful containment and the relatively rapid scene clearance reflect the proficiency of local crews. Maury County residents and commuters on Highway 431 were able to resume normal traffic flow within hours of the initial dispatch.
