COLUMBIA — As part of America's 250th anniversary commemoration, the City of Columbia has launched Columbia250USA.com and installed decorative banners throughout downtown recognizing 26 influential historical figures. These "Architects of History" represent the spirit and legacy of Columbia across generations, from leaders and legends to visionaries who helped shape the community.
The website features brief biographies of each honoree, with historical content provided by the Maury County Archives and the African American Heritage Society of Maury County. The banners bring those stories to the heart of downtown, connecting residents and visitors to Columbia's past. Mayor Chaz Molder emphasized the importance of the initiative: "This is about more than marking a milestone. It's about recognizing the people who built our community and ensuring their stories continue to be told to inform future generations."
The recognition effort reflects Columbia's commitment to celebrating its unique role in the nation's story while looking ahead to the future the community is building together.
